At school I achieved A* in all of my GCSEs and A*, A*, A at A Level, as well as a distinction with full marks in my EPQ on English Literature. I then accepted a place to read English at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a First and two prizes for academic excellence. I am now hoping to pursue a part-time MA in London in Contemporary Literature, before assuming a full-time position teaching English.

I would not have been able to realise my academic potential without the inspiration, encouragement and direction of some fantastic teachers. It is for this reason that I hope I can support students at whatever stage they are at in their academic journey, providing the assistance which I feel was integral to my own success. 

I have been tutoring English Language and Literature both in person and online for several years. This has included tuition for the 11+, GCSE and A Level, as well as for essay competitions, personal statements, the Oxbridge English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT) and interview practice for school and university applications. I also tutor refugees in English voluntarily and have experience teaching French GCSE. I have worked with a variety of students and have covered all the major exam boards, receiving excellent feedback from both students and parents across the board.

I believe that any pupil can achieve success in English if they tailor their learning towards their personal interests. By homing in on what it is that makes a student enjoy learning and feel inquisitive, even if that be in a scientific or practical discipline that may feel far removed from the linguistic or literary, I can tailor my approach so that the student recognises the benefits that an emotive, entirely personal and uniquely flexible subject like English can afford. 

Due to my breadth of tutoring experience to date, I am familiar with recognising gaps in knowledge and can develop schemes of work in accordance to these blanks. I believe in maintaining a dynamic learning environment in which the student is active throughout the lesson, regularly engaging with material and continuously testing their knowledge. I care deeply about maintaining an open and encouraging relationship with my students, in which we work efficiently and proactively in pursuit of a shared goal. 

Outside of teaching I play classical guitar and am interested in live music of all kinds. I am also interested in the visual arts and speak conversational French.

At ARCH, Alice will be supporting students seeking to excel in their English Language and Literature preparation. As a language expert, Alice will also be able to support students taking French as well.
