Luke Sales

University of Cape Town

Luke Sales graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Environmental and Geographical Sciences. Upon finishing his BA, Luke then attained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), specializing in English (Home Language and First Additional Language) as well as Geography. Before departing for university, he studied at one of the most prestigious private boarding schools in South Africa, Michaelhouse, where he excelled in leadership positions and sporting ability. Consequently, he will bring a wealth of firsthand experience of a boarding school lifestyle to ARCH and their students.

Luke Sales was exposed to a vast spectrum of academic environments. His experience teaching at one of the most exclusive all girl’s boarding schools in South Africa, inspired him to incorporate technology into the classroom. Luke was promoted to head teacher at his most recent role teaching in South Korea, where he focused on teaching English. Luke does not believe in being a dispenser of information and knowledge, but rather, a facilitator and enabler of learning. He views his role as an educator to provide guidance, help students develop skills and to offer support that will help students attain their learning goals. He hopes to create an environment where students will interact with knowledge; to understand, critique, manipulate, design, create and transform it. The curriculum Luke was exposed to during his schooling and later on with his PGCE, derives from the UK curriculum, with a focus in English and Geography.

His areas of interest include literature, with a focus on 19th century literature, as well as poetry from the same era. Educational psychology is another interest of his, having briefly encountered it during his studies he wishes to pursue it more thoroughly and implement this knowledge in his classrooms. Sport has always been a part of his life and he is a firm believer of the benefits sports can play in a students life.

At ARCH, Luke is an enrichment instructor and Geography teacher, and he promises an inclusive learning environment; where students will be encouraged to express themselves as individuals and discover the undoubted sense of achievement when they acquire new knowledge and understanding.
