Tim Calder

Dartmouth College
Senior US Consultant

Tim attended Dartmouth College, where he majored in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and minored in Environmental Studies. During his time at Dartmouth, Tim studied abroad in Tibet through an experiential learning and outdoor leadership organization called Where There Be Dragons, and in Beijing at Beijing Normal University.

Since graduating from Dartmouth, Tim has spent over 10 years working in education in Asia. Tim was awarded a prestigious Princeton in Asia fellowship, which sent him to Singapore for two and a half years. He was placed at Anglo-Chinese School, where he taught ancient Chinese history, managed the rugby team, piloted a one-to-one computing program, and served as a Discipline Master, a role that focused on developing students' character skills, like leadership, responsibility, initiative, collaboration, communication, and so on.

Tim spent the next 7 months traveling through 10 countries (including one month teaching English at a rural orphanage in Cambodia) before he began his role as a college consultant in Beijing. Tim spent over 4 years working with a range of students to apply and gain admission to some of the top colleges and universities in the U.S., including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, UChicago, UPenn, Swarthmore, Bowdoin, Duke, Brown, Cornell, Northwestern, NYU Stern, and so on. During that time he also managed a team of counselors, overseeing as many as 60 students at once. In his free time, Tim started a youth squash program in Beijing. He coached a range of students from beginners as young as 5 years old, up to 14 year old top national competitors. Concurrently, he established a charity teaching squash, English, and character skills to the children of migrant laborers.

Tim is passionate about leveraging his 10 years in education in Asia and experience as a coach to help students to uncover their own unique and compelling application story. He continues to compete in the Hong Kong Squash League and operates a charity in his free time.
