St. George’s University Pre-Medicine Foundation Program
The St. George’s University Pre-Medicine Foundation Program is a pathway program for students interested in pursuing careers in medicine. SGU will support our students by extending medicine-related programs and scholarships.
St. George’s University (SGU), founded in 1976 with the goal of drawing the best talent and practices from around the world, has become a leading center for academic excellence worldwide.
The Pre-Medicine Foundation Program gives students a chance to learn the prerequisite knowledge for pursuing a degree in medicine.
Throughout the program, students will gain invaluable exposure to the UK educational system and style of teaching with face-to-face academic support and the opportunity to interact with fellow students in person.
Why should I choose this program?
SGU guarantees placement for our students who apply with predicted grades that meet SGU’s minimum requirements. You’ll be eligible to transfer to the 5-year Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree Program at SGU’s School of Medicine.
The one to two year program in International A-Levels (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics) gives senior secondary school students an internationally recognized qualification that they can use to apply for undergraduate medical degree programs in the UK and HK.
SGU collaborates with us to provide students with periodic medicine-specific programs to build up their scientific awareness and enhance their readiness for the discipline. These experiences range from talks and workshops to online webinarsand exposure to summer programs.
We specializes in providing students with medicine-specific aptitude tests (BMAT, UCAT) and interview preparation to maximise their chance of success in applying to medical schools in the UK and HK. Students are paired with medicine mentors to expand their knowledge of a medical career.

Admission Prerequisites
To be eligible for the SGU Pre-Medicine Foundation Program you must:
- Typically be aged 17 or above in the year of entry
- Hold grades of 322 in any 3 subjects in HKDSE or
Total grades of 26 or above in IBDP or
Hold grades of BCC in any 3 subjects in GCE A-level or IAL or equivalent - Have an overall minimum score of 5.5 in IELTS or equivalent
- Pass the assessment test at ARCH Education Center (Central)
*Exceptions to these requirements will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Course Structure
As a student in the SGU Pre-Medicine Foundation Program, you’ll take three International A-Level modules:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
You can expect 100 teaching hours and 50 contact hours for each course, total of 600 hours for the entire program.
Route to SGU Doctor of Medicine Program
Application
The application opens in April. The application deadline is August 31.
After submitting the application, you will be invited to attend an interview and complete an assessment at ARCH Education Center (Central). Our education consultants will review whether the program is suitable for you.
The application for the program is highly competitive, so you’re encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible.
