Jennifer Ma

University of Oxford
Founder & Managing Partner

Jennifer Ma attended St. Paul’s Co-educational College and Benenden School before graduating from the University of Oxford with First Class Honours in Economics and Management (B.A., M.A. Oxon). In addition to achieving academic accolades in the form of Collection Prizes at Oxford, Jennifer was the elected President of the then second-largest student-run society, the Guild. Investment banking by background, Jennifer worked at Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs before becoming an educator, entrepreneur and philanthropist in 2009. Jennifer achieved her Masters in Education at the University of Hong Kong in 2011 whilst co-founding ARCH Education. As part of the University of Oxford Alumni Advisor Panel and the Pembroke College Ossulston Circle, Jennifer has had the honour of attending strategy conferences at Oxford with alumni advisors, fellows and faculty leaders. Jennifer has also facilitated interviews at University of Hong Kong for undergraduates aspiring to apply for Visiting Student positions at University of Oxford.

Highly involved in various capacities within the education field, Jennifer has committed herself to community work through Junior Achievement, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Access Hong Kong and St Paul’s Co-Ed Mentorship Programme. Jennifer is a Trustee on the Benenden School Trust as well as a Panelist on the China Oxford Scholarship Foundation – both of which serve to recruit and fund able scholars from China and Hong Kong to further their studies in the UK. Jennifer is currently a Council Member of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Vice Chair on the Board of Teach4HK and a committee member for the Concerted Efforts Resource Centre, promoting a positive education ethos and widening access to under-resourced communities. In 2011, Jennifer co-founded ARCH Community Outreach (ACO) whose mission is to widen Hong Kong students’ exposure and access to international education opportunities, with a particular outreach focus on supporting and sponsoring under-resourced high achievers in Hong Kong in their application to global top universities.

In her role as an educator, curriculum developer and teacher trainer at ARCH Education, Jennifer researches teaching pedagogies with a keen focus on inspiring students to develop higher order skills in thinking, speaking, reading and writing. Jennifer conducted a spectrum of case study research and wrote papers on teaching pedagogies, including variation theories, peer learning strategies and diverse assessment methods. Jennifer is highly interested in teacher training and policy making within the education industry, and has been involved in delivering teacher training workshops to local schools in Hong Kong on topics ranging from teaching pedagogies in the classroom to careers counselling. She hopes to continue developing tools and training methods to enable teachers to best facilitate students in their acquisition of transferrable, critical mentalities and skillsets in different classroom settings.

With much appreciation for her own educational exposure, she leads a team of expert counsellors to guide students in their application to top boarding schools and universities in the UK and Hong Kong, with particular emphasis on Oxbridge and London universities admissions. In 2014, Jennifer co-authored “Boarding Schools: What You Need to Know”, a book which collates comprehensive and practical advice from students, parents, schools and education consultants and published by John Catt, whose previous publications have included The Good Schools Guide in the UK. The literature has subsequently been translated into Chinese (traditional and simplified), published and distributed in the Greater China by Enrich Publishers.

Jennifer has contributed articles to press including South China Morning Post Education Post, Jessica, Hong Kong Economic Journal, Hong Kong Economic Times, Tatler Good Schools Guide, RTHK and other media; and has been around Asia delivering education related talks with Dow Jones and Wall Street Journal.
