Victoria Tong

The Education University of Hong Kong
Aspire English Instructor

Victoria was born in and resided in America for around 18 years prior to moving to Hong Kong. During her stay in America, she obtained 2nd place with her written persuasive speech for her college CSULA’s public-speaking class, which involved over 1,000 participants, and was invited to serve as a judge in the consequent public speaking competition. Due to family matters, she moved to Hong Kong after her first year of college in the US and continued her undergraduate studies at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), one of the top universities for training teachers. She graduated from EdUHK in 2018 with first-class honours in a BA degree in Creative Arts and Culture, majoring in music and minoring in English. Shortly after, she obtained the Trinity CertTESOL teaching qualification at English for Asia.

Victoria discovered her passion for education when she first became a Native-speaking English Teacher in 2018 upon graduating from EdUHK. Dreaming of having a job that would allow her to inspire others towards self-actualization, she realized overtime that teaching was the exact avenue for her to reach this goal. When she was little, she experienced the difficulties of being a slow learner in various aspects. However, through perseverance and self-belief, she was able to convert past weaknesses into strengths. Hence, she decided to pursue a CertTESOL qualification to equip herself with the necessary skills for optimizing the growth of students in hopes that she could help them achieve the same breakthroughs she once experienced. Combining her creativity from her music background with her skills attained through comprehensive teacher training, she has formulated a unique inclusive environment teaching style to help students of various learning styles absorb taught material. Through a simultaneous combination of self-made drawings, music concepts, and movement to enhance memorization, she personally witnessed her struggling students making notable progress in learning phonics and preparing for speech competitions.

At ARCH, Victoria strives to equip students not only with the essential skills they will need to become fluent in the English language but also to utilize the power of acceptance, humor and reasoning in the classroom to promote students’ all-rounded development as unique individuals with minds of their own.

During her leisure time, Victoria strives to invest in her personal development by reading books relating to effective communication and various self-help books. This is because she believes the attitude of constantly learning is crucial in allowing one to become the best version of oneself. Moreover, having better communication skills will aid in building a firm, welcoming, and nourishing environment for students, and she always wants her students to know that their thoughts matter and should be respected. She also enjoys exercising, traveling, eating good food, and spending time with friends and family.
