Our Worldly Writer Program is designed to cultivate writers who embody global mindset and cultural awareness, possess essential critical thinking and communication skills, and offer a unique perspective in their writing. Through a focused critical thinking, reading and writing curriculum, participants will explore diverse perspectives to craft and articulate compelling narratives which will inspire, educate, and connect with their audience.

(AGES 7-8/ P2 - P3)

Theme:
Term 1: Playful Toys
Be inspired by the evolution and future of toys in the thinking unit, and read the engaging stories of adventurous toys to spark your creativity. Students would then create their own toy and create its advertisement, building their descriptive skills in writing. Then personifying the toy, travel the world and tell other toys about your exciting journeys with narrative postcards from all your destinations.
Term 2: Creatures & Critters
Learn about mythical creatures, and how they were, as well as how they have inspired society. Through fiction classics like The Enormous Crocodile and Despereaux, students will learn about the techniques writers have used to bring imagination to life. By creating a world of imagined creatures, students will document these critters descriptive Wanted Posters to reward hunters to encyclopedia entries that present details of their creation. Culminating in a story that would deliver compelling lessons to inspire acts of kindness and humanity.

Theme:
Term 1: Animal Wellbeing & Myths
Build your awareness of how we can protect animals with the thinking unit and read the emotive advocacy and stories of animals around the world and throughout history. Students will write their own persuasive essays to argue for animals that are under our care with carefully crafted arguments that articulate logic and emotion. They will follow up with a project to create a mystical narrative that celebrates our relationship with the animals by practicing the techniques found in writing fables and fiction.
Term 2: Crime & Mystery
Delve into the world of law and order through famous cases of both fiction and real. Be inspired by how the evolving science of investigation and the literary works it has inspired, such as Sherlocke Holmes and Enola Holmes. Being inspired, students will craft court submissions that advocate for those who stand before the law. Students will imagine the next advancements in investigative technology to empower law enforcement and write an instructional manual for them. With imagined characters and devices made for plot twists, students will put these all together to a crime thriller that combines suspense and creativity.

Term 1: Survival & Growth
Critically analyse the human spirit in survival and development while you read and appreciate the language arts of a curated collection of short stories and selected portion of classic novels about trials and growth. The writing projects incorporate advanced elements of descriptive and narrative writing. With guidance, students will employ sensory information, imagery, indirect characterisation and nuanced dialogue among other skills to enhance their writing.
Term 2: Individual & Society
Through the lives of protagonists in classics such as the Hobbit and modern works such as Trash, let us peer into the world of decisions and judgements. Critically analyse decisions made by singular personalities throughout history and the world they shape. Students will then leverage creative narrative poems and adventurous journals to recount stories of distinguished characters. They all also pen persuasive essays analysing momentous events. Students will be guided to write compellingly through both emotion and logic.

Term 1: Advocacy in Writing
Exploring the duality of humanity and the society that we have built; we delve deeper into the subject by reading and critiquing an anthology through the lens of literary analysis. These engagements empower students to pen open letters and investigative features that articulate complex scenarios and arguments. Students will be taught the conventions of formal letters and writing expository writing, and they will be guided through research to coalesce their ideas and convey their thoughts and emotions to compel the reader.
Term 2: Writing for the World
Critically analyse the visions of future society from sources of literary works and initiatives of the people who came before us. Be inspired by how past generations saw the future to inform our visions of a better tomorrow. While imagining worlds, we give a platform for students to articulate their opinions and creativity. Guiding them to build discursive essays and reviews to persuade readers. Students would also grasp the techniques to create rich multi-layered story to immerse audience into a world through vivid descriptions and compelling storytelling.
